The Rhyl & St Asaph Angling Association offers 20 miles of salmon and sea trout fishing on the rivers Clwyd, Elwy and Aled. These rivers are situated amid stunning scenery in the Vale of Clwyd, North Wales. The association controls 19 beats, several of which it owns. Many are reserved for members only & some are bookable by members to ensure there is no overcrowding. The association also has a two acre spring-fed reservoir located in beautiful surroundings near Denbigh, stocked with rainbow and some large brown trout exclusively for members’ use.
The club beats on these rivers and their tributaries offer undoubtedly the best game fishing in the area. They are well known for their sea trout fishing, or sewin, as it is known locally. Some of the sea trout caught each year on these beats weigh in excess of 10lbs. The main run of sea trout usually starts entering the river system from June onwards; some large fish enter early in May. The best months for nighttime fly-fishing are usually July and August. Grilse start entering the system in August and these are followed in September and October with the back end run of Salmon. The club allows all legal fishing methods to cater for all tastes.
The Vale of Clwyd is within comfortable travelling distance of the North West of England and the Midlands, easy access from the A55 dual carriageway means it is not more than 15 mins to the furthest beat and so is easily accessible for a day or even an evening fishing trip.
One-day or five-day visitor permits for non-club members for some of our beats are available from Foxons Tackle in St Asaph (see Links Page) for salmon, trout and sea trout fishing on the rivers Clwyd, Elwy and Aled.
For the 2016 Season we offer our members access to coarse fishing for carp and tench on two pools at the Lleweni Parc fishery. Details can be viewed in our Association Waters link and can be downloaded from our Documents link.
The club is always happy to show off our beats to prospective members with no obligation.
For any new members who may be new to fly fishing, free tuition can be arranged.
We also have a junior section & to encourage youngsters to fish member’s children under 12 who may want to try fishing are given free membership.
